Remembering . . .

“If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep on walking.”

I wander through the corridors of me
in search of that tiny room
that contains
all I have forgotton

The dark holds such memories
it is taut with unspoken things

Things that lay just below the surface
unseen, but dangerous, even to the sure footed

Those small wrinkles in our bedrock become molehills
that can be magnified into mountains
in those inner cinemas
of the unconscious

I need to find the very darkest corner of me

and there, behind the fears
and the debris

of a life

half lived

I know I will find the spark

That pinprick of startling light. . .
just awaiting the breath of my awareness
to fan it into a fire, that will flood the shadows
illuminating those inner rooms with the brightest light

I reach out with eager hands and pick up that burning torch
I hold it aloft, until all the dark internal places
have seen the light that I carry

Lit up from within

I remember

myself

*

"Do not fight the darkness,
let the light in and the darkness will disappear."
- Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

As you can see I have given the place a bit of a makeover! I hope you like the new look. :-)

Absolutely fabulous. A rich meaty poem with a seer's wisdom, looking into the darkness to replace it with light. Wow. What a way to start my day! "those inner cinemas of the unconscious" - how did you THINK of that, it is brilliant!!!! and "that pinprick of startling light"...........whoa! you make me want to write better poems! AND the site looks fab, by the way. I envy you the wide column, mine is too narrow, how will I ever do a shaped poem? But I am scared to alter the template in case I have to re-space my entire blog, which might take the rest of my life:)

GREAT poem, Susannah. Whew!

Hi Susannah,
This poem speaks to me...going into the darkness rather than fleeing it or looking away. The torch is the awareness that shines...
Thank you, and I love the new look on your blog. Reading your words always opens something within me. Thank you for your depth and sincerity.

Hi Suz

...or should I call you Susanna (said in the spanish way) - I like that! ;-)

The quote is a Buddhist proverb, I think? Wonderful and so true.

Kinship, yes I feel it too. :-)

Thanks very much for your words and a hug to you too.

It is always good to see you. x

Sherry Blue Sky,

Thanks very much for your wonderful comment. :-) Your feedback makes me want to write more poems! lol Thank you for reading and 'getting it'.

I know what you mean about messing with your blog! but there is an option to view it to check it hasn't messed up before saving...though I must admit I didn't find it that easy to use!

Good to see you, and I love reading your posts. :-)

Oh Susannah, I just love this quote. There's a whole lifetime's wisdom in that one sentence.
